To answer this question. There are several reasons why you should have your furniture reupholstered. The new furniture that you buy now a days is very poorly made. The life expectancy of most new furniture now a days is 2 months to 1 year, depending how often you use it. I have heard salesman in the furniture stores and also customers who have been in my shop say, “ The furniture you buy now a days is Disposable” That is so very true! Every spring here in Grand Junction we have the yearly Spring Clean Up and in the spring clean up you will see furniture put out by the curb to be thrown away. They are mostly the newer furniture. You can’t sell it in a yard sale, you can’t sell it in the paper or on line and you can’t even give it away. Thousands of dollars were paid for those pieces of furniture and some people are still paying for it. Here’s my opinion on that part. I saw an ad on TV that said “ No Payments Till 2012” and now it is 2008. That furniture will be in the trash pile before you even make one payment.
The is some high quality furniture to be sold out there and they can be a good investment. You will not just have it for years, but for generations. And some people have inherited good furniture. You can pay $3000 or more for good quality furniture that will last you 100 times longer the cheap stuff. So now where do Upholsterers come in? When you have good used furniture you can get it recovered for about the same or less then a new cheap one, and it will last you longer, be more comfortable and cost you less in the long run. You can also choose the perfect fabric to put on you furniture to decorate you home to your taste.
Most of the furniture that is bought now a days is made overseas, mainly China. They build them cheap and sell the cheap and doesn't last. The only result is that they get rich while sell you cheap junk that you pay for over and over again. So buy American keep our economy strong not there’s.
How Can You Tell If You Have Good Quality Furniture?
How can you tell that you have good quality furniture in your home or if you were to buy one in a yard sale or something like that. There are two things you need to know. First try picking it up. For a sofa try to lift it up on one end. If it is heavy that usually means that it is made with quality wood. The better wood is heavier. Second on the arm of the furniture push it back and forth. If it is tight and not loose , that will tell you that it is well built . I buy my furniture at the Salvation Army. My wife bought a Lazy Boy sleeper for $12.00 not a thing wrong with it, just needed a new cover and we have had it for 10 years now. It has never given us a problem. I don’t like to repair my own stuff , I have better things to do. Quality furniture will last you a long time and save you money!
AUTO UPHOLSTERY
Auto upholstery is much different. New original covers for your vehicles are outrageously priced. On a bucket seat it is $400.00 for a new seat cover and $500.00 for a new seat back cover just for one bucket seat. (and that is if it is not made with leather) that is about $900.00 to purchase the cover for one bucket seat and you still need someone to install it. That could cost you about $75.00 to $125.00 depending on who you will have do it for you. $75.00 if I do it. From My upholstery shop, for about the same price you can get the other bucket seat done and the back seat done too and the labor included.
It is more cost effective to regularly maintain your vehicle then to buy a new one. The same goes for your interior of your vehicle. More people now a days with the economy the way it is would rather spend less. A vehicle payment will cost you more per month then routine maintenance. People will buy a new vehicle, incur a high payment and insurance, when all they needed is a paint job and some interior work.
Custom interiors go without saying. When you want it your way you can have it your way. Make it your own style. You can make your interior look, feel and operate the way you want it. The convince of a console with a well placed cup holder in a vehicle that never had one. Or install a different seat that looks cool and fits you better. You can enjoy a custom interior much better.
